Psychedelic Krautrockers Acid Rooster Release "Hall of Mirrors" Album

Acid Rooster is a band from Leipzig whose sound captures the essence of psychedelic and Krautrock. Composed of a trio of childhood friends from southern Germany, Acid Rooster is known for their trance-inducing tones, instrumental tightness, and out-of-this-world live performances. Perhaps most interestingly of all, the band's songs are partially written and partially improvised, a true example of letting creativity take you where it will.

Acid Rooster released their self-titled debut in 2019, and soon found themselves playing a slew of shows and festivals alongside bands such as Kikagaku Moyo, Acid Mothers Temple, Föllakzoid, and Bitchin Bajas. Their second EP Irrlichter was released in 2021 and was followed by extensive touring throughout Europe and the UK, a live album called Ad Astra in 2022, and full-length studio album Flowers & Dead Souls in 2023. Now, Acid Rooster is releasing their latest EP, Hall of Mirrors, on October 25, 2024 via Tonzonen Records.

Hall of Mirrors

Track Listing:

1.) Automat
2.) Chandelier Arp
3.) Confidence of Ignorance
4.) When Clouds Part

While there are only four tracks on Hall of Mirrors, rest assured, there's an entire album's worth of mind-bending goodness within, as well as four very distinct moods. The album begins with the pulsating acidic funk and surf rock undertones of Automat, and from here, truly evokes the kosmische spirit on the remaining three longer tracks. Chandelier Arp in particular is reminiscent of the vastness of space, sonically capturing its cold empty darkness. Confidence of Ignorance combines this sense of openness with a psychedelic desert flair, evoking something strikingly beautiful but dangerous. When Clouds Part is delicate and dreamy, as a wispy cloud itself, the occasional spacey whine giving it a hint of other-worldliness. I think of hazy memories when I hear this song; something almost tangible but not quite, the less clear parts stirring up notes of melancholia and longing.

Whether you're a seasoned Krautrock fan or are more of a casual listener, I'm sure you'll adore the sophistication of Hall of Mirrors and the undeniable creativity and skill this trio of musicians harnesses to bring these soundscapes to life.

A very cool visualizer for "Automat"
