Silverships Releases New Single and Video For "Nevermore", the Latest Single from Their Upcoming EP "Kingdom of Decay"

Silverships is a trio from Hamburg who primarily describe themselves as a psychedelic rock band, but truth be told, there's infinitely more brewing in their eclectic sound. Psychedelic rock is undoubtedly present, but you'll also find nods to early 2000s desert rock, 60s space rock, 70s hard/progressive rock, and 90s stoner rock. These elements come together to create a colorful and intricate mosaic of sound that is simultaneously engrossing and soothing while weaving captivating tales. This is demonstrated beautifully on Kingdom of Decay, the title track and first single from the band's upcoming EP. I found myself instantly enamored with this song since it released in late June 2024. I played it over and over, finding the contrast in the languorous, hypnotic first half leading into a wailing, vibrant stoner/hard rock jam at the end to be a perfect soundtrack to my summer.

Now, I'm beyond ecstatic to share that Silverships is releasing Nevermore, the second single from the Kingdom of Decay EP. What's more, this single is accompanied by a very artful music video, shown below:

Silverships describes Nevermore as follows:

"'Nevermore' starts as a classic stoner rock song. Rhythm guitars and bass in unison push a simple, effective riff over a heavy, rolling beat. The chorus excites with strong contrasts: On the one hand the hymnic melody, on the other an apocalyptically aggressive drum beat. The lyrics deal with the demon that is fear, who is dealt an initially marching, then explosive exorcism. The outro brings the song to an epic conclusion that resonates and reverberates for a long time."

As for me, I'm certain I don't have to mention that I'm utterly delighted by this new single. And to be completely honest, I wasn't expecting to be floored in the same way as I was by Kingdom of Decay, but here I am again, on the ground. There are so many clever elements in Nevermore. As the band describes above, contrast is smartly used to tell a story and convey emotion. In this case, the frenzied and increasingly frantic battle with a proverbial demon ending in a dramatic climax. Stoner rock is present in the gritty riff that glides over the pummeling drums, reminiscent of the subject's quickening heartbeat. This culminates with the repetition of "The power of love compels you!" by the vocals, the tone of which moves from matter of fact to utterly unhinged. A sudden lull followed by triumphant, soaring lead guitar and confident vocals stating, "I won't be yours no more, nevermore", are more than enough to inform us that love has triumphed over fear. The distinct changes of pace, tone, and style utilized on Nevermore give it a progressive rock feel that works very well with its backbone of stoner rock. I also found the vocals here to have a post punk sound in many places, giving the song a goth veneer that works very well with the subject matter at hand. The song in its entirety is a rollercoaster of emotion that the listener can physically feel as much as they hear, easily relating it to their own personal encounters with a demon, whatever (or whoever) that may be.

Of course, if I'd allow myself, I could sit here and write all day about the merits of Nevermore, but this is something you have to hear for yourself to gain full appreciation for it:
