If I could think of one word to describe the sound of grungy alt rockers Daily Thompson, it would be "bittersweet". This Dortmund-based trio has an incredible knack for melding melancholic, grunge-infused tones with the saccharine and sunny notes of alternative rock, resulting in infectious but emotionally powerful melodies.
Daily Thompson released their debut self-titled album in 2014. Since then, the band has never slowed down, quickly following this initial release with Boring Nation (2016), Thirsty (2018), Oumuamua (2020), God of Spinoza (2021), Live at Freak Valley Festival 2022, and the critically acclaimed Chuparosa in 2024. Not only have they been working tirelessly on this impressive discography, but Daily Thompson has also stayed incredibly active in the live music scene, playing alongside the likes of Fu Manchu, My Sleeping Karma, Rotor, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Greenleaf, Khemmis, 1000Mods, and Freedom Hawk to name just a few.
After recording Chuparosa in Seattle with the help of none other than Tony Reed, Daily Thompson knew they wanted to record their next album in the same manner. Enter Glue, Daily Thompson's eighth album, forged in the heart of the birthplace of grunge, a genre that plays a massive role in the band's sound and inspiration. Released on August 21, 2026 via Noisolution, Glue delivers Daily Thompson's most raw songwriting yet, making it their most personal album to date.

1.) Heart of Bones
Heart of Bones delivers sweet, upbeat grooves that I like to think of as the sonic version of the happy and free feeling generated when you put the windows down on the first day of Spring, the wind in your hair and the golden sun kissing your skin. However, like many grungy songs of this nature, the music and vocals can be deceptively sugary in comparison to the lyrics, and Daily Thompson has mastered this technique.

2.) Workout
Do the workout. Stop and go. High and low. Rinse and repeat.
Set to fittingly spiraling guitar, Workout recounts the deranging monotony of the daily grind. With vocals that alternate between enervated, dejected tones reminiscent of "autopilot" mode and bursts of passion, this relatable song finds the narrator in a conflict between convincing himself that everything is fine and the desire to break free. In the end, Workout reminds us that few things rip through the humdrum like "cranking up the tune(s)".
3.) Fake a Smile
Much like Workout, Fake a Smile takes a look at artificiality...faking it til you make it...but this time, it's on a deeper, personal level. We've all had to "fake a smile", putting on a front while inside we're being torn asunder, asking ourselves the heart-wrenching question: "Is this love or not at all?" Meanwhile, life goes on around you, a constant, maddening, droning buzz that seems nauseatingly carefree (and fraudulent). Slowly, you feel your heart "fade to black". Fake a Smile poignantly captures this very specific feeling in such a vivid way, the listener is instantly transported back to a time when they felt their own vitality seeping from their soul, eliciting powerful feelings of empathy (almost too powerful 😉).
4.) Chains
Chains shattered my heart into a thousand pieces before the first chorus.
Beginning with a surge of palpable passion, the intensity bleeds from every note of this powerful song; voice and instrumentals alike are filled with a goosebump-inducing level of feeling that escalates as Chains plays on. The song erupts in fiery ardor at the end - it has to at that point - launching into an instrumental breakdown that begins with crunchy, focused riffs before diffusing into a wailing jam. Chains is a song that I could never do justice with feeble words - you have to allow this level of soul to wash over your own heart and experience its pull for yourself - just know that this is the highlight of the album, and quite possibly, of Daily Thompson's career to date!
5.) BTK
Featuring a measured amount of trepidation and a great showcase of bassist Mercedes's vocals, BTK takes a multi-faceted look at the infamous serial killer from a victim's perspective. Moving from fear, a bit of Stockholm Syndrome ("you love me, you touch me, you kept me every day"), empathy ("love is all you need"), and resignation ("please kill me, please take my breath away"), Daily Thompson introduces stoner rock to the world of true crime. Ultimately, BTK is a song about female "strength, resilience, and empowerment" as it describes an "emotional journey from hope to fierceness".

6.) Here I Stand
Fully embracing the swampy grunge sounds of the 90s, Here I Stand is a confident declaration of brokenness and solitude, set to irresistibly catchy melody.
7.) Siam
Speaking of catchiness, Daily Thompson takes earworms to the next level on Siam, a tune filled with an unexpected Southern rock-tinged swagger cut with smooth and haunting pre-choruses. This track strongly evokes the spirit of the band's debut album.
8.) Lovebugs
Lovebugs is too damn pure for its own good, and of course by that I mean it's perfect.
If you've ever been lucky enough to experience a sweet, gentle love that blossomed in the heat and magic of the summer, Lovebugs will send those memories flooding back - certain to tug on your heartstrings and bring a smile to your face.
Final Thoughts
I feel completely confident in stating that Glue is Daily Thompson's best and most meaningful album to date.
On their previous album Chuparosa, Daily Thompson utilized more of a classic stoner sound, celebrating the influence of greats such as Fu Manchu and Kyuss while ensuring that their individuality shone through at the same time. Glue, on the other hand, is all Daily Thompson, all heart. Not only does this release build upon the band's signature stoney grunge sound, but it takes their authentic, impassioned songwriting to the next level. Between the infectious grooves of Glue, raw emotion soaks through, permeating the listener's heart and soul. This level of emotional intensity leaves no question that each and every note and word comes from a deep, intimate place.
In an age where technology and AI are unabashedly infiltrating the creative process, Glue makes an impactful statement by boldly keeping the raw emotion and humanness in the art of songwriting. But, all things considered, I think the message the band intends to send here is even simpler, and infinitely more powerful:
"Love is all you need"
It's the "glue" that holds us together.
